Our client manufactures and sells pharmaceutical-grade plastic pellets. Some of their clients require the pellets to be ground into a powder for manufacturing. This has been previously done by a third party at a high cost, with scheduling and quality issues. The pellets must be cooled to -200°C using liquid nitrogen injection so they are brittle enough to be ground into powder.
Local managed the design and construction of a cryogenic grinding facility inside an existing warehouse at the plant to allow our client to create plastic powder in-house. Local worked with three equipment vendors to design a pharmaceutical-grade clean room, a cryogenic cooling screw conveyor, and pneumatic transfer system with grinder.
