Principal Electrical Engineer

Paul has over 15 years of design experience in electrical engineering and has been progressing in leadership roles throughout his career.  He has practiced in the industrial facility areas of pipelines, oil & gas, power generation, water and wastewater, petrochemical, and mining.  Mr. Tichelaar is a key team member steering strategies and leading execution to excellence in terms of cost, schedule, and technical quality.  He has strong knowledge of client and industry standards with experience in interpreting and applying them to projects in various industries.  

He has the ability to lead and collaborate with teams through all phases of project document production as well as construction and commissioning.  His design expertise includes power distribution equipment, switchgear, drives, motor controllers, and electrical buildings. He has also managed and led work on protective relay coordination, arc flash studies, grounding network design, electrical heat trace, control system specification (PLC, SCADA, DCS, etc.), marshaling and termination cabinet design, and specification of field devices.

Paul enjoys cycling, running, hockey, and cross country skiing as well as developing several projects and caring for animals on his hobby farm when he is not at the office.

Mike is a Professional Engineer with over 25 years of experience as a Process/Production/Project Engineer supporting industrial facility asset improvements. Mike has had many responsibilities during his tenure including technical specialist, discipline lead, project management, operations, marketing and sales. He takes pride in the level of customer support he provides to various repeat clients. Mike enjoys focusing his expertise on reliability and efficiency improvements as well as supporting research and development activities. 

His expertise has been utilized on numerous complicated projects including the design of high pressure and high temperature applications. Mike has assisted with numerous issues related to plant troubleshooting, code compliance, pressure relief design/analysis, energy optimization/efficiency improvements and numerous process hazard assessments.

Mike enjoys playing volleyball, camping trips and acting as chauffeur for his five children.

Brad Fidyk, P.Eng, PE

Mechanical Engineer

Brad has more than 5 years of experience performing mechanical design in a multi-disciplinary environment.  He has provided technical expertise on a variety of projects including pipeline fluid withdrawal testing, tailings dewatering and custom static equipment designs among others.  Brad has created 3D piping and static equipment models, isometrics, P&IDs, plot plans, and manufacturing drawings using Plant 3D and AutoCad.  He has designed piping systems in accordance with various industry standards including ASME B31.3, ASME B31.4, Alberta Safety Codes Act, 49 CFR Part 195, Plastic Pipe Institute (PPI) Handbook.  Performing static and dynamic pipe stress analysis using Caesar II is another of Brad’s many skills.  Brad is a strong communicator who excels at coordinating projects between internal employees, external contractors, clients, & vendors.  He is diligent about ensuring that safety and compliance are top of mind with all design work and that project timelines, deliverables, quality, & budgets are met.

 

Brad enjoys restoring classic cars, biking, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, playing hockey, tennis, and curling recreationally.

Dennis is a Mechanical Engineer and Project Engineer/Manager with over 15 years of experience in industrial engineering design, project management, and engineering management. Dennis has experience as a key team member on a wide variety of projects with highlights including Project Engineer, Project Manager, Mechanical Engineering Department Manager, Mechanical Lead and Rotating Equipment Engineer on a major oilsands project, Mechanical/Project Lead on refinery projects, and Project/Field Engineer executing a wide variety of work at different refineries. 5+ years of on-site experience based at various refineries and facilities has developed a practical, hard-working mentality and an appreciation of the owners’ objectives and challenges. Those site-based positions combined with office-based experience in various key leadership roles have bred a unique profile with many strengths which can be applied to a wide variety of work. Excellent communication skills and a motivated attitude towards project delivery produces strong, trusting, and effective relationships with colleagues and clients.

Matt has over 11 years of design experience in electrical engineering, control systems and instrumentation design. He has been progressing in leadership roles throughout his career and enjoys managing a team with a focus on exceptional quality and business results. Matt has expansive knowledge of electrical, control system and power distribution design from project proposal to commissioning. Matt has experience supporting the operation and trouble shooting of pipeline leak detection instrumentation. Matt excels at building client relationships through communication and delivering high quality work products.

Matt is a proponent of a strong safety culture and is driven to support the vision of zero injuries. He has been a member of the joint health and safety committee and has completed internal and external COR audits.

Matt enjoys lifting weights, playing board games, and watching Disney movies with his two young daughters.

Winston is a junior mechanical engineer who brings strong enthusiasm for new projects and opportunities to learn and grow. His technical abilities, attention to detail and passion for engineering allows him to excel in fast-paced, high-pressure environments and has proven him as a reliable team member of the mechanical engineering team. Winston has a solid foundation in mechanical design and analysis, as well as hands-on experience in the production and testing of mechanical systems. He has experience in heat exchanger ABSA packages, solar-powered remote controlled irrigation systems and ultrasound orthodontic treatment devices. Mikey has more than 15 years of experience coordinating multi-disciplinary environments to successfully implement equipment with safe designs in fast-paced EPM settings for petrochemical, utilities, and O&G industries. He is proficient at troubleshooting hydraulic problems whether they are transportation of settling slurries, Bingham fluids, liquid or gas in steady or transient state. He has participated in numerous HAZOPs and developed detailed study/calculation reports, P&ID/ LDTs, control narratives, and equipment/instrument datasheets.

Mikey is a self-motivated individual with strong leadership, interpersonal, and technical skills who strives to develop and maintain good relationships.
Mikey enjoys developing complex spreadsheets, DIY home renovations, basketball and baking sourdough bread. He is fluent in French and has completed the MS 150 Bike Tour many times.

Darryl Evanchuk

Senior Electrical Designer

Darryl has 30+ years experience in numerous projects including capital, green field, brown field, revamps and expansions.  His work experience includes civil, structural, mechanical and electrical design drafting, CAD coordination and management, AutoPlant administration, document management and project management.  Over the years Darryl has been trained and become very skilled in 2D/3D applications such as AutoCAD and Microstation as well as AutoPlant, SmartPlant, Plant 3D, Point Clouds and Navisworks.  As a result, Darryl also has the ability to provide administration and technical support for these programs.  He is also experienced in design review and coordination, quality assurance, quality control and CAD standards.  Industry experience has been on and off-site in Oil and Gas, Pipeline, Biofuel, Chemical, Refining and Upgrading, Natural Gas, Mining, Fabrication and Manufacturing projects.

Darryl enjoys fishing, off-roading, hiking, biking, hockey and travel.

Junior Electrical Engineer

Mike is a junior electrical engineer with a tireless focus and incredible attention to detail. His honest interest in understanding industrial power and control systems have advanced his understanding far beyond his years of experience. Figuring stuff out is where he shines, using his analytical mind, self-motivation and asking the right questions. Mike is proficient at performing power system studies using ETAP software including load flow, short circuit and arc flash analysis. He enjoys working on projects that involve both field work and office work. Mike has led the effort to as-build client electrical distribution systems and has commissioned a datalogger system to provide alarms via text message for a remote client site.

Mike enjoys repairing electronics including stereos, power supplies and car electronics.

Luis Faina

Senior Mechanical / Piping Designer

Luis is a senior designer with more than 20 years of experience in the field of mechanical and piping design for petrochemical, upgrader and refineries, oil and gas pipeline facilities and cogeneration/thermal power plants.

His responsibilities include 3D equipment modeling and piping layout using software such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, CADWORX, Auto Plant V8i and PDS in greenfield & brownfield environments. Luis generates piping deliverables such as equipment plot plans, key plans, piping sections and details, piping supports, stress, and isometric drawings. He makes sure that construction drawings conform to client specifications, meet client’s drawing standards for quality and drawing consistency.

Luis loves to travel with his family and dog (Chewbacca) to experience nature. Luis likes to go camping and fishing, watching hockey (Oilers Fan) and basketball (Celtics Fan).

Dan has more than 5 years of progressive leadership experience while performing mechanical design for multi-disciplinary projects.  He has provided technical expertise on a variety of projects including pipeline leak detection research, custom static equipment designs, rotating equipment designs, and high temperature / high pressure research testing.  He has designed piping systems in accordance with various industry standards including ASME B31.3, CSA Z662, and the Alberta Safety Codes Act.  Dan has also completed a variety of static and dynamic pipe stress analysis using Caesar.  Dan has consistently proven himself to be an excellent communicator and has coordinated projects between a variety of technical stakeholders including internal and external project engineers, subject matter experts, trades/subcontractors, clients, & vendors.  He is highly motivated towards continuous improvement and is committed to ensuring that a safe and reliable scope of work is achieved. 

Dan enjoys spending time outdoors and staying active through a variety of activities including camping, cross country skiing, hockey, running, biking, and canoeing. Dan is also a much better recreational curler than his teammate and co-worker, Brad Fidyk.

Faisal has more than 12 years experience in engineering design and project management in oil sands, heavy oil, and liquids transmission pipelines. He is a communicative and resourceful engineer with diverse experience collaborating with Industrial Facility owner clients to solve technical problems, and coordinating engineering teams to achieve fit-for-purpose solutions. He is a client service oriented professional with engineering experience and successful achievement in a variety of complex projects.

Faisal has executed project engineering and management roles for all phases of engineering design, including scope development, front-end design, detailed engineering, commissioning and start-up, and operational support. He has executed multiple pipeline leak detection system evaluations and field performance tests, consisting of designing and mobilizing temporary test setups in the field, coordinating with client stakeholders and pipeline controllers, and interfacing with external stakeholders for regulatory compliance. Faisal also has significant project development engineering expertise, with experience building business cases with cost estimates and quantified benefits for risk reduction, operational opportunities, employee productivity, and environmental consequence management.

In his spare time, Faisal enjoys cycling, swimming, reading, and listening to podcasts. His interests include personal finance, factor investing, and data science.

Lauren recently completed her M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering focusing on experimental methods for evaluating adsorbent materials used in carbon capture and other processes. Her technical experience includes performing FEED studies and HAZOPs for gas plants and compressor stations along with equipment sizing, capacity checks, and pipeline and flare hydraulics. 

She has process simulation experience in HYSYS, VMGSymmetry, and BREPromax. Lauren enjoys working with multi-disciplinary teams and has developed her leadership and communication skills through involvement as a mentor with the University of Alberta’s Female Engineering Mentorship (FEM) Program and as President of the Chemical Engineering Students’ Society.

Lauren enjoys playing and watching hockey, curling, bouldering, and trail running ultra-marathons. In her spare time, she is an avid reader, knitter, and tends to her collection of many plants.

Shailja is a seasoned professional with more than 3 years of extensive experience in Piping/Mechanical engineering for oil/gas, refinery and petrochemical EPC projects. She is experienced in performing pipe stress analysis (static & dynamic) for various critical piping systems with in-depth knowledge of CAESAR II software. 

She has handled projects in the range of large greenfield to small brownfield sustaining projects in hydrocarbon sector. Shailja has worked across Select, Feed and Detailed design project phases. She is a team player and enjoys working on challenging multi-disciplinary project with tight project deadlines and budget. She always thinks from client’s perspective and provide solutions considering code compliance, client & government regulation.

Matt has more than 5 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design and project management in heavy industrial settings. He has installed and commissioned projects of varying magnitudes including process and safety upgrades, equipment and crane installations, and critical asset repairs using CSA B167, CMAA Spec 70, CSA W59, ASME B30.20, CSA Z432, amongst many others. 

Matt has a strong knowledge of weldment and machine design, industrial safeguarding including risk assessments, FEA utilizing SolidWorks Simulation and is a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt with Six Sigma Canada. Matt is skilled with all aspects of project engineering and management, from project definition, front-end design, estimation, detailed engineering, drafting, procurement, construction oversight, contractor management, commissioning, and ongoing operations support.

 

 

Matt enjoys a variety of activities including woodworking, working on cars, home renovations, gardening, cooking, winemaking and playing soccer. Most of all he enjoys spending time with his family and kids at the cabin.

Liam is a recent electrical engineering graduate from the University of Victoria with specializations in digital signal processing, and electrical communications. He has developed a wide range of engineering interests during his co-op placements which included mills, mines, and lumber yards. Liam is experienced in industrial control systems including programming logic into both PLC and DCS systems.

Liam is an active learner and continues to grow his engineering knowledge with every project he is a part of.

 

Liam spends as much of his time as he can rock climbing and hiking in the mountains. During the off season he enjoys playing board games with his five siblings.

Dayton Chen, E.I.T

Junior Process Engineer

Dayton is finishing up his M. Sc. In Biomedical engineering focusing on the manufacturing process of nanocrystalline silver dressings for wound and burn management. He has experience modeling and tuning sputter deposition systems, basic micro-biological testing, drug encapsulation via polymer molds, as well as equipment sizing.

Dayton’s background is primarily working on interdisciplinary teams, with strong leadership and communication skills developed through his experiences as UAlberta’s Engineering Student Society President, as well as his service in the Campus Food Bank, UAlberta’s ECOCAR team, and UAlberta’s Engineer’s Without Borders chapter.

 

Outside of Local, you can find Dayton working on his MSc. Thesis, volunteering around Greater Edmonton and Sherwood Park, or complaining about his endless backlog of books to be read.

Scott has more than 5 years of experience in mechanical design and project management in heavy industrial settings. He has a practical approach driven by his experience as a maintenance field engineer rooted in a strong technical understanding from his experience as a project engineer. He has designed and installed projects of varying magnitudes including process upgrades, safety upgrades, and critical repairs using CSA B149.1 & .3, CSA B167, CMAA Spec 70, ASME B30.20, CSA W59, the National Fire Code (Alberta Edition), and NFPA 30, among others. Scott has a strong knowledge of weld design and is also a CWB W178.2 Level 1 Certified Welding Inspector.

Scott is skilled with all aspects of project engineering and management, from project definition, front-end design, estimation, detailed engineering and drafting, procurement, construction oversight and contractor management, commissioning, and ongoing support.

 

Scott likes to spend his time playing music and cooking, and he tries to get outside as much as possible to go mountain biking, running, rock climbing, skiing, hiking, and camping.
